Ask him what he wants
My first suggestion is to ask him what he wants. I know it can feel like this takes some of the surprise out of it, but it’s important to get people things they want, need and will use. Whether they give you a broad idea to work off of, or a specific item on your wishlist, asking them what they want will ensure you are getting them something they want and need. If you want there to be something you came up with on your own, you can always add something small with the gift, such as a thoughtful ornament.
An experience or trip
My second idea that isn’t a tangible, linkable item is to gift an experience. My mom and stepdad gifted my boyfriend and me hockey tickets last year, and we have also gifted each other weekend trips before. Gifting an experience or trip can be really fun because it gives you something to look forward to and an activity to enjoy together.
1. Cologne
The first tangible item on my Christmas gift guide for him is cologne, which actually on my boyfriend’s wish list this year. My boyfriend likes the Dior Homme cologne, but if you aren’t sure what they will like, the cologne gift sets that Sephora does are another cool idea. With these gift sets, you get a sampler pack so you can try out a variety of options, and then you can use a gift certificate that comes with it to redeem a full size of your favorite scent.
2. Something Hobby-Related
My next suggestion is to buy him something related to his hobbies. My boyfriend loves to golf and has received rangefinders, balls, tees and more as gifts. Anything related to their hobbies or interests is always a thoughtful gift that you know they’ll get use out of.
3. Computer Accessories
If the guy you are shopping for works from home or spends a lot of time on his computer, accessories such as a nice mouse or additional monitor (or gaming stuff, if he plays video games, whether it is on his computer or not) can be a great gift. My boyfriend has an additional laptop monitor that he loves for working away from his desktop, such as at coffee shops or when traveling. I do not think the one I have linked to is the exact one he has, and I am not much of a tech girlie, so I recommend doing independent research or asking him if there is anything computer-related he may want.
4. The North Face Backpack
The next item on my Christmas gift guide for him is a backpack from The North Face. Whether the guy you are shopping for needs a backpack for work, traveling, or activities like hiking and skiing, this backpack is a great option.
5. Gold Chain Necklace
My boyfriend wore this necklace for more than two years straight without ever taking it off – not even to shower or swim. For the price point, I would say it held very well. Another brand I would recommend checking out for affordable jewelry that lasts a long time is Heir Raleigh. The brand offers several unisex options, and I have bracelets that I have had on, without ever taking off, for nearly three years, and they still look amazing.
6. Baseball Cap
Whether it’s sports-themed, athletic, personalized, or from one of his favorite places, a hat can be the perfect gift—especially if your boyfriend is anything like mine!
7. Leather Wallet
I saw people say that this is so basic and they don’t want to see it on gift guides, but a leather wallet is a classic, timeless item that can last for years. If they don’t already have one or if theirs is falling apart, a leather wallet can make a great gift.
8. Gift Card
The next item on my Christmas gift guide for him is a gift card to one of their favorite places. This could be their favorite restaurant or retail store or if you are gifting someone you are not as close with or someone you know would appreciate money that can be spent anywhere, such as a cousin or nephew, a Visa gift card.
9. Thoughtful Christmas Decor
If you are looking for a thoughtful gift to give, consider Christmas decorations! It could be an ornament related to a recent milestone or achievement, like moving in together, graduating, moving to a new state, or starting a new job, something related to one of their hobbies or interests or simply a unique Christmas decoration you think they would like.
For example, my boyfriend and I have gifted each other ornaments for our first Christmas living together in our first apartment, trips we have been on that year and the state we recently moved to. Additionally, my mom and stepdad gifted my boyfriend a garland of Santa and Mrs. Claus’s clothes on a clothesline, and it is his favorite Christmas decor we own.
10. Hydroflask
Another basic option, but a Hydroflask is a great gift, especially for guys who wouldn’t want to carry around a Stanley or Owala cup with a straw. My boyfriend prefers the skinnier style because it fits better in his truck cup holders.
11. Birkenstocks
Birkenstocks can be a great gift for anyone because they are so comfortable and will last for years. I have gifted my mom, stepmom and boyfriend Birkenstocks in the past, and I, of course, have a pair of my own. My boyfriend has the sandal style but is also interested in owning a pair of clogs.
I prefer the oiled leather style to the suede style because they have more structure and seem like they won’t get as dirty as suede would.
12. Beanie
A beanie is another easy basic option, but a beanie is a great go-to gift.
13. Embriodered or Needlepoint Belt
The next item on my Christmas gift guide for him is an embroidered or needlepoint belt, or a classic leather belt if that is more their style. My boyfriend has an embroidered belt from Country Club Prep that he loves, and their needlepoint belts are really pretty, though they are nearly three times the cost.
14. Kitchen Knife
This idea was also on my gift guide for her, but a nice kitchen knife can be a great gift for anyone who loves to cook. Before I had this knife, I was using the Amazon chopper that everyone seems to love, but I was not loving it. I felt like the food got stuck in the chopper, and I had to slam it to get things to go through. My stepdad gifted me this knife, and I truly feel like it is a game changer because it’s so quick and easy.
15. Waffle Knit Shirt
If you want to buy clothes for the guy in your life, I suggest a waffle knit shirt. My boyfriend loves the more oversized, comfy-fit waffle shirts, and they are pretty each to find at a variety of places. I have thrifted a few for him for just a few dollars, and we have also gotten them at Old Navy and Banana Republic before.
16. Henley Shirt or Sweatshirt
A similar idea: a Henley shirt or sweatshirt. These are versatile and easy to find at various stores. I even thrifted my boyfriend a sweatshirt Henley similar to the L.L. Bean one I linked!
17. Nice Sunglasses
A pair of sunglasses is a great gift for anyone on your list. My boyfriend has this pair, but I have also gotten my stepdad this pair, and I love the other options linked below. One thing you do have to consider with sunglasses is if they need a prescription or not.
18. Stainless Steel Yeti Tumbler
Lastly, a Yeti tumbler. This is another basic option, but we love the stainless steel Yeti tumblers because they are dishwasher safe and won’t chip like the colored ones.
