The Christmas season has ended, and if you are anything like me, you’re not quite ready to let go of your Christmas decor. At first, I wasn’t sure how I would decorate my home after Christmas, but after brainstorming, I figured it out. Here are my top January Decor Ideas.
January Decor Ideas:
Step 1: Remove all Christmas decor
Remove anything that screams Christmas, such as Santa-themed items, nutcrackers and ornaments. I also removed anything red because I do a traditional red and green Christmas theme and felt that leaving anything red would feel too similar to my Christmas decor.
Leave behind any decor appropriate for winter, such as greenery, bottle brush trees, glass trees, snowflakes, pinecones, dried oranges, and even your Christmas tree.
Step 2: Add any winter decor items
When thinking of January Decor Ideas, I think of dried oranges, snowflakes, magnolia leaves, winter florals, evergreens, trees and pinecones.

My Winter Decor:
Items I used for my January decor and similar items:
For my mantel decor, I removed the Santa and Mrs. Claus clothesline garland, readjusted the greenery to be centered, and added dried oranges and a faux blueberry arrangement to each side.
When redecorating my back door and my tree, I removed all the Christmas ornaments and then added snowflake ornaments and dried oranges to the tree.
To style my hutch for winter, I removed a Santa hat wine topper, my Martha Stewart Christmas books and my Christmas cocktail napkins. I left behind the bottle brush trees, glass trees, wine cork garland and snowflakes. I also pulled the stone wine holder back out and put it on display.
I made the wine cork garland with old wine corks that my stepdad drilled a hole in, natural twine, beads and a pack of tassels my mom had. The snowflake was a wooden cut-out from a craft store that I decorated. I created the 3-D cable knit sweater detail by manipulating paper into the shape I wanted, gluing it down and painting the whole thing white.
As for the rest of the home, I removed the bottle brush trees with ornaments and Christmas mugs from the kitchen and left the white ‘Christmas’ lights and the faux greenery out. I also added a snowy forest scene I recently painted at a wine and design event to my January decor.
January decor ideas with dried oranges:
Dried oranges are great to make around the holiday season because they make the house smell amazing and are perfect for holiday decor AND post-holiday decor! I have added dried oranges to wreaths and presents and have also made garlands and ornaments out of dried oranges.
How to make dried oranges:
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. While the oven is preheating, slice your oranges and place them on a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the oranges in the oven and bake for 2-4 hours, depending on how thick you sliced them. Note that times and oven temperatures vary depending on which blog you are looking at and how many orange slices you are cooking. I would recommend keeping an eye on the oranges slices, but in general, cook them at a low temperature for a long time.
- Flip them every 30 minutes or so to prevent them from burning.
- Let the smell of oranges fill your home! It’s that easy!
Note: The oranges may still be a little juicy, in which case you can bake them a little longer or let them sit out for a day to dry up!
